It all started when…

Okay, go back to 2008 when my 8-year-old son Aiden wanted another dog. We already had a couple of dogs, a few horses, and some chickens. Scott said 'no more dogs.' My husband Scott has allergies and has been putting up with our dogs for over 15 years. Fifteen years of sniffling and puffy eyes in his own home to make me happy. So I started my research into hypoallergenic animals. I looked into so many options I saw genetically modified cats!

Long story short

I determined that Labradoodles would fit the bill. So then I looked locally to see what I could find, and I came up with a few Labradoodle breeders in Oregon and Washington, seemingly hot spots for Labradoodle breeders. I purchased our first Labradoodle, Bear. Here is where the significant Labradoodle changes started.

A 'dog breeder' is not the same thing as 'puppy mill’

First of all, a breeder I worked with, opened my eyes to the fact that 'dog breeder' was not the same thing as 'puppy mill.' The most important factor, the dogs go to good homes and are well cared for during their entire life. This concept was new to me, granted I had only purchased one dog before Bear, but still it was not my previous experience. I figured that you had puppies, people came and bought them, the end. No, this was a life long commitment to every puppy that left her house. It was intriguing.

Our first Labradoodle

And then there was Bear, our first Labradoodle. Sigh... So smart, so easy to train and fun to be with. We were hooked. My husband Scott was happy, kids were happy. I was happy. My son felt like a master trainer when he taught Bear to come, sit, stay. 

My first breeding dog

I called Stacey back about a year later and asked if I could buy a breeding dog from her because these dogs must be the best in the world, and I wanted to become a Labradoodle breeder in Oregon and help make more of them for everyone. I honestly wanted everyone to know! Stacey said 'I have a female we can share; let's breed her together.' 

The Beginning of Great Day Labradoodles

Over the next eight years, I worked in partnership with Stacey. In 2018 it seemed time to start separating into two businesses, and Great Day Labradoodles began.
